Lockdown was challenging. Like many we had to hit the reset button. Life continued online, and brought forth many new conversations and opportunities. We knew we needed a change and we stumbled across this slice of paradise by pure chance.
That was it!
We were head over heels in love with the place and level 3 couldn't come soon enough.
We were soon winding through stunning Central Otago with everything and the cat packed up, ready to begin our new adventure. Patearoa has a magic about it, sleepy and secluded, with wide open spaces and views that continue for what seems like forever. The area is steeped in Gold mining history, sporting legends and historic farming families that go back generations.
The hotel itself has a long history, originally built in 1886, called The Sowburn Hotel. Sadly in 1927 a fire destroyed the original building. The building that stands today was rebuilt and called The Patearoa Hotel, Estd 1928.
Having had many owners over the years, it had been left empty for some time, when we happened across it online. The building needed a lot of love and life to be pumped back in. With the help of a lot of friends and family, soon enough, we had rebuilt, repainted, refloored and rebooted the pub.
We took on this project knowing it was to be a journey. A continual dream of renovation and innovation, with challenges and obstacles to over come.
We have tried to build the place, we as a family, are looking for…. Great food, Great atmosphere, Safe space for the kids, Entertainment and of course a great range of Drinks.
With a place to rest your head if you have one too many.
We are not done yet...........the journey is just beginning.
